Hopeful Parents was created in 2001 when a lawyer from a Raleigh, NC-based adoption agency observed “waiting parents” who needed support. These were clients who were either waiting to be matched with a birth mother, waiting for their matched birth mother to deliver or waiting for their revocation period to expire. Several new mothers the agency had assisted with placement were recruited and Hopeful Parents was born.
As attendance increased and programs became more organized, enthusiasm for additional opportunities to network with other adoptive families grew. In early 2004, it was determined that the original volunteer group should become a nonprofit organization in order to further the mission of the group. To that end, Hopeful Parents was organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
